Moby Dick Marathon - Chapter 9 The Sermon - at Sag Harbor Whalers Church

                 

East End Ink presents a portion of a reading of Herman Melville's Moby Dick recorded at Sag Harbor's Old Whalers' Church in April 2019.

It is part of a complete reading of the classic American novel produced by Canios Cultural Café on Melville's 200th Anniversary.

Chapter 9, The Sermon, is narrated by Southampton Press editor Joseph Shaw.

Actor Harris Yulin reads Father Mapple’s sermon. 

Members of the Choral Society of the Hamptons sing a hymn.

The organist is Walter Klauss.

Moby Dick Marathon - 2021

A marathon reading of Herman Mellville’s Moby Dick was staged at locations in Sag Harbor in September 2021

It was produced by Canio’s Cultural Café. 

 We present excerpts from the reading recorded at Canio’s Books.

The reading was preceded by an introduction by Denise Silva – Dennis of the Shinnecock Nation who invoked the spirit of the first native whalers on Long Island.
